We Saw A Vision

Last week when I went to Dublin I found a garden called The Garden of Remembrance. It just a normal garden near city center about 10 minutes walk. It looks normal but when you see it from above, it has a cross like pool in it. At the end of the garden, there is a statue, four swan and three human, I don’t know what it’s called.

The cross

What makes me interested with this garden is not the cross or the statue but a passage written in the wall beside the statue.

We Saw A Vision

In the darkness of despair we saw a vision. We lit the light of hope and it was not extinguished. In the desert of discouragement we saw a vision. We planted the tree of valour and it blossomed.

In the winter of bondage we saw a vision. We melted the snow of lethargy and the river of resurrection flowed from it.

We sent our vision aswim like a swan on the river. The vision became a reality. Winter became summer, bondage became freedom and this we left to you as your inheritance.

O generations of freedom remember us, the generation of the vision.

– Liam Mac Uistin

We are generation of freedom. Be proud of it but don’t forget the people that make it happen.

Boss On Top

This afternoon after daily mass I went to Arthur’s Seat to take some photos. It was my second time in Arthur’s Seat. Last time when I tried to hike there I got lost, well not really lost but just took a little detour that made me circle around Holyrood Park. On my way to Arthur’s Seat, I saw a guy wear formal dress suit heading Arthur’s Seat. I thought he just take a detour to go to his office but I’m wrong, he HIKE Arthur’s Seat. OMG, I just can’t believe it. It just uncommon for someone to hike a 251 meters hill wearing a formal dress suit. But I admit it, this guys rocks, he even beat me to the top 😀

Formal dress? why not

[DDM] Intel NUC Instead of Raspberry Pi 2

As you know, my final project not only addressing sound quality and natural interaction but also portability. At first when I come up with this project, I thought I can use Raspberry Pi 2 as part of my project. Leap Motion and Raspberry Pi 2 will become a perfect match to address this portability issue. After I do another research, it turns out that Raspberry Pi 2 isn’t supported by Leap Motion, at least that’s what they said in forum. They said that Raspberry Pi 2 doesn’t have enough juice to works with Leap Motion. Knowing that I can’t use Raspberry Pi 2, I had to choose another candidate for this portability issue, small but powerful enough to handle Leap Motion.

After some digging, I found Intel NUC. Intel NUC is a mini PC from Intel, small enough for my project and powerful enough to handle Leap Motion. Of course it’s powerful, it has core i3 in there. Compared to Raspberry Pi 2, Intel NUC is full fledged mini PC, so I won’t bother comparing these two, they’re just like apple and orange. And also, Intel NUC way more expensive than Raspberry Pi 2 :D. Okay, we’ll see how it turns out with my project.

[DDM] First Meeting With Supervisor

First meeting today give me new insight about my final project. It’s not preserving but more re-imagine Angklung. It doesn’t really change what I want to create in my final project, it just change my final project’s “background story”. My supervisor also suggest me to use (or maybe think about) procedural sound but I think if I go to that direction, it will become more Sound Designer final project than Design and Digital Media final project. In this project, I want to focus on user interaction than sound.

[DDM] Finally Got Supervisor

After submit my proposal in early May, finally my program director release our final project’s supervisor list. I got Dr. Jules Rawlinson as my supervisor. Unlike my friend who got another supervisor, I’m not surprised with this result because I ask for him to be my supervisor. I choose Dr. Rawlinson because my project involve not only user interaction design but also sound design. I hope this is the best choice for this project.
